Competing since the age of 9, Hannah Martin has led a determined career overcoming not only opponents but also stereo-types, surgeries and the challenges of moving up in weight class to become a 4x Grand Prix medalist, Pan American Games medalist and over 15x World Cup medalist.Hannah now has her sights on Gold in Tokyo as she primes for the 2020 Olympic Games!
What inspires you?
The Olympic Dream inspires me. To be able to do what you love and represent your country on the biggest sport stage in the world is truly inspiring and motivating!
What is your current goal for the season?
Qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!
What is the most significant challenge you face in achieving your goal?
For me, it’s not about strength, endurance or technique. My greatest challenge is my mentality. I find that I struggle with my mind and confidence more than anything else.

What approach do you take to improve your confidence and mental toughness?
What is a technical aspect of your sport you are focusing on or have previously improved?
Judo is so interesting because you are always learning something new every single day! I think that is what is so intriguing about judo. Every single practice is different, every single competition is different!
There are thousands of different ways to win in judo and that is why I work on improving all aspects of my judo every single day.
What is your approach to Recovery?
Mobility and rest! I always make sure that I give myself one day off from training a week!
Can you share a few word of advice for other athletes who are working hard to persevere?
I always tell myself to keep moving forward. Don’t dwell in the past for too long. Stay persistent and consistent with your training and the results will come!
