Trinidad Sprinter Kervin Morgan

Sprinter Kervin Morgan

This week we are excited to feature Trini Sprinter, Kervin Morgan! This LIU grad is determined to overcome his challenges and maintain focus on his passion and purpose.

Being from Trinidad, does the legacy of great sprinters like Ato Bolden, Richard Thompson and Michelle Lee-Ahye inspire you? What is that special something that makes Trinidad produce such great talent?

Yes, they all inspire me, having been on the same team as both Richard Thompson and Michelle Lee-Ahye a while ago (World championships 2007 and all junior games). They are the reason I choose to continue my journey seeing that they are still making Trinidad and Tobago proud. The will power and attitude that Trinidad athletes have no matter the circumstances that surround us is what I think makes Trinidad and Tobago produce top athletes.

What inspires you?

My family and the many blessings God has placed in my life to help me continue going every time I thought it was time to hang it up.

What are your athletic goals for this season?

To remain healthy and get back on the road to becoming better than my many success from my youth days

What is the most significant challenge you face in achieving your goal?

A mental block that I am trying to work on. Once that is cleared I would become unstoppable again.

What approaches have you taken to overcome these?

I have been hurt many many times, especially when it's about to be that moment to shine. That really played with the mental part of my performance and also being the only one from my family in the U.S., I didn't know what would be next for me after college. My coach helped me a lot when it came to the mental part along with my brother back home in Trinidad. They both helped me to believe in myself once again.

What is a technical aspect of your sport you are focusing on or have previously improved?

My health. Not getting hurt and losing weight.

What is your strategy for success in 2019?

Staying positive and healthy are the two most important things for my success in the 2019 season

What is your approach to Recovery?

Eating healthy with as much rest as I can get.

What might you say to inspire other athletes?

Never give up on your dreams. Keep a clear mind and stay focus on the task at hand. On competition day remember that the work has already been up in and you are ready for anything that comes your way.

What do you like about iON?

I used iON's epsom salt muscle soak recovery once and it worked like a charm! My new found athletic trainer introduced me to it and I would love to use more.
